Have Fun Be Safe. Guidelines

I waited with other passengers in the hot Texas sun for a bus to arrive to bring us to the Houston airport. Hundreds of suitcases were waiting for passengers as they disembarked from the ship. I spoke to numerous passengers who missed their flight or had to reschedule due to the delayed ship docking.

The line shifted its mask-wearing policy similar to other lines after the spread of the more contagious delta variant of COVID-19 became more prevalent, and the CDC updated its recommendations for mask wearing in public spaces. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, those COVID-19 test results need to come within 48 hours of sailing, which is up from the previous 72-hour window. So if a person is sailing on a Saturday, the test has to have been taken on Thursday or Friday, with results back in time before departure. Vaccinated guests must continue to provide proof of their vaccination status, either through VeriFLY or at embarkation.

The ship docked more than an hour late due to weather, and from my understanding, the disembarkation process carried on like normal, which meant I waited my turn based on my cabin number to leave the ship. There were signs everywhere that indicated passengers should be wearing a face mask for the embarkation process. I assumed at some point during the embarkation process a Carnival employee would have me fill out the form.

HAVE FUN. BE SAFE.™ COVID-19 GUEST PROTOCOLS

In the unlikely event there is an outbreak of COVID-19 on board which is considered to be higher risk, all non-essential services will be suspended. Should it be necessary to cancel any or multiple ports, we will do our best to find alternative destinations. However, if we are unsuccessful in doing so, there will be no compensation for missed ports, beyond a refund of any pre-purchased Carnival shore excursions. When she's not in New York City, she likes to spend her time at the beach or exploring new destinations and hopes to visit every country in the world. However, with cases picking up seasonally and new booster vaccines rolling out, will you need a vaccine to cruise? Click on your favorite cruise line above, under "Jump to Section," to find out.

Carnival Cruise Line is strengthening its vaccination policy, requiring unvaccinated guests to provide a doctor's note ahead of embarking on a cruise. In early August 2022, Norwegian Cruise Line became the first major cruise line to roll back its vaccination requirements. Proof of immunization is no longer required, nor is testing in order to board for any voyage. Carnival sister brand Princess Cruises on Friday also announced that it would remove its vaccine requirement for most voyages of fewer than 16 days, effective Sept. 6.

We will be following the health protocols for every port we visit, which are under the control of local authorities and subject to change without prior notice. All guests, regardless of vaccination status, must come prepared to follow local guidance pertaining to mask wearing, physical distancing, testing/health screenings, etc. Since destination health protocols continue to evolve, the most up-to-date information will be provided in a stateroom advisory. However, cruisers are responsible for meeting the requirements of the countries in which they'll be traveling. Should passengers become ill during their cruise, AmaWaterways will assist in procuring testing and other medical services, which will be the financial responsibility of those guests.

Carnival Cruise Line, the namesake line of cruising giant Carnival Corp., will sail in July from Port of Galveston with vaccinated passengers. For more information on Carnival Cruise Line's COVID-19 protocols prior to boarding, click here . We have a COVID-19 response management plan covering varying levels of risk determined by the number of positive COVID-19 cases, clusters and close contacts. For any guest who is non-compliant, no refund will be issued of the cruise fare for missed cruise days, nor will travel expenses (if flying home) be covered.

VACCINATION & TESTING

Disney Cruise Line encourages — but does not require — all passengers to be fully vaccinated before sailing. It also recommends pre-cruise testing, no more than two days prior to embarkation, for anyone who doesn't have their shots. Avalon Waterways no longer requires proof of vaccination or a negative test prior to passenger boarding. However, mandatory testing and proof of vaccination could still be required in some countries the line visits.

Unvaccinated guests are welcome to sail and are no longer required to apply for a vaccine exemption, except for cruises in Australia or on voyages 16 nights and longer. Guests will be kept informed onboard of any COVID-19 outbreak and any changes to the situation and what this means, including any changes to onboard health protocols. In addition, guests due to board the next cruise after a COVID-19 outbreak of moderate to higher risk has occurred will be informed of this prior to boarding.

However, we recommend guests wear masks in public indoor spaces, outdoors when in large congregate events if they’re feeling unwell or exhibiting symptoms of illness. Australian public health authorities also strongly recommend all cruise ship guests receive an annual influenza vaccination at least two weeks before the start of their cruise. Additionally, unvaccinated guests leaving from Florida or Texas must show proof of travel insurance. Passengers embarking on river and ocean voyages with Scenic will not need to be fully immunized prior to sailing. Testing is not required by the line but might be needed to enter the country in which you're embarking on your sailing.

Similar to checking in for a flight, a few days before the cruise, I went through a check-in process that had a handful of forms and agreements passengers needed to fill out. To board, passengers will have had to complete the final dose of their COVID vaccine 14 days ahead of embarkation, according to a news release from the cruise line. The Tampa-bound Pride will have already performed sailings in Baltimore starting Sept. 12 and then sail a repositioning voyage to the Panama Canal. For passengers traveling to Canada, a PCR test can be taken 3 days before sailing or an antigen test can be taken 2 days before sailing. In the event that your claim is denied, please contact with your booking details and any relevant documentation, including a letter of denial from your insurance provider. Claims are reviewed on a case-by-case scenario, and there is no guarantee of reimbursement.

Carnival also announced that vaccinated passengers no longer will have to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test to board its ships in most places. The line said testing will still be required for vaccinated passengers in advance of cruises to Canada, Bermuda, Greece and Australia, per local regulations in those countries, and on voyages of 16 nights or longer. Although vaccines are not required, we encourage all guests, 5 years of age and older, to be up to date with their COVID-19 vaccines, when eligible, and carry proof of vaccination. However, we encourage all guests, 5 years and older, to take a pre-cruise COVID-19 test within three days of their cruise. Azamara recommends that passengers follow local regulations and the latest guidance from government health organizations when determining which vaccines to obtain prior to travel. The line also does not require negative test results in order to board unless mandated by local governments in the ports where the line's ships sail.

"We appreciate the patience of our guests and travel advisor partners as we update all materials, but the end result is a very positive one for all who are looking forward to cruising with us," she said. Anyone who doesn't comply with the onboard public health measures may be disembarked at the first available opportunity. Other consequences could include being denied service, required isolation in their room and being banned from cruising with Carnival Cruise Line and other Carnival Corporation and plc brands in future. For cruises to or from Australia, there is a medical facility onboard where guests can have an initial consultation and COVID-19 related testing at their expense.

That meant they required just about everyone on board to have their shots, with only a few exceptions allowed for young children and people who can't be vaccinated due to medical conditions or religious beliefs. Norwegian Cruise Line and sister lines Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Oceania Cruises on Monday dropped their vaccine requirements for many sailings, effective Sept. 3. Guests under the age of 5 years are exempt from vaccination and testing requirements for sailings from the U.S., and under the age of 12 for sailings from Australia. Whenever possible, anyone suspected of COVID-19 will be assessed and treated in their room with all medical first responders wearing full PPE. Medical staff will arrange safe transfer of any unwell individuals to the ship's Medical Centre if additional treatment is required that cannot be provided in the guest's room.
