This allowed us to text each other onboard (no fee, you can use it without purchasing an internet plan) during the cruise and came in very handy. Download the app before your board the ship (or sail away) so that you don’t have to use any of your free mb to get it. Since they just started doing this table-service lunch in Triton’s after the dry dock last fall, I was curious to see what the menu would be like. I apologize now for the lighting in all of my food & menu photos from here on. It seemed like in every dining room, there was an overhead light right about me that cast a shadow.
Day 4 – October 8, 2023 – Grand Cayman
At the very least, the Disney Wonder is headed in the right direction. I must admit and have no problem doing so, I WAS WRONG thinking they would not sail to San Diego for just a short period of time before the scheduled return to Galveston in November. Last night, the Disney Wonder departed Port Everglades with a course set for Colon, Panama, or the Atlantic entrance to the Panama Canal. Although there is no official word from Disney Cruise Line, the Disney Wonder’s repositioning from South Florida is promising news for those booked on sailings from San Diego. The new locks will have three chambers, water-saving basins, lateral filling and emptying system & rolling gates. The breakdown of the southern plug was briefly shown in the first video.

Day 8 – October 12, 2023 – At Sea
Disney Cruise Line made history over the weekend when Disney Wonder became the first passenger cruise ship to transit the Panama Canal’s new locks. This port of departure is only one hour from Walt Disney World. What better way to complete a Disney Cruise than a trip to Disney World itself? You can also explore the famous Kennedy Space Center and learn more about space travel.
So, we did it this time, but we didn’t make a habit of it during the rest of the cruise. Movies – There are always lots of first-run movies shown in the Buena Vista Theater on a Disney cruise. This time there were more available because we had more sea days.
Day 4 – March 7, 2022 – At Sea
The Panama Canal Expansion project entered the countdown phase this month with 93% of the overall project complete. The final leg of the project focuses on the third set of locks which is currently just over 90% complete. The video below is the official August 2015 status update from the Panama Canal. She has been making the trek up Interstate 5 to Disneyland since she was a small child and terrified of talking tikis and hitchhiking ghosts. She and her husband Lee enjoy trips to Disneyland and Walt Disney World, as well as sailings on the Disney Cruise Line.

Here you can explore the beautiful beaches or take in the natural wildlife on the land or in the sea. You can also learn about the history and culture of this location by touring Cathedrals. This port of departure has plenty to attract tourists and entertain.

The Disney Magic set sail from Miami, Florida on October 5, 2023. During this cruise, the ship was under the control of Captain Robert Olmer. Personal Navigators, and other handouts from the 14-Night Westbound Panama Canal Cruise from New Orleans to San Diego.
We only managed to see two movies… the timing just never worked out for us to see more of them. There were already quite a few cruisers there, so we got in line with our passports and cruise documents ready. It was at this time that we first noticed the difference in the type of crowd. I had heard that this would be the case from several people so I was completely expecting it, but it was so strange to actually see it in person. There were tons of people there, and other than our own kids, I think I only saw 2 other kids at this time. I was actually looking forward to this aspect of the cruise so that hopefully my kids could enjoy less crowded pool and youth spaces.
The Disney Wonder set sail from New Orleans, Louisiana on March 4, 2022. There are additional Personal Navigators from other sailings of this same itinerary for comparison. During this cruise, the ship was under the control of Captain Damir Vukonic. The Cruise Director during the sailing was Stephen Cloete. Currently, the Disney Wonder is the only ship in the fleet able to transit the original Panama Canal. Once complete the New Panama Canal will enable all of Disney Cruise Line’s ships to transit.
On August 25, 2021, the Disney Wonder transited the Panama Canal. The following video is a time-lapse of the Disney Wonder transiting the Cocoli Locks of the Panama Canal ending her transit from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. The visible transit of the locks as viewed on the Panama Canal webcam lasted approximately 40 minutes and is presented in the video under a half-minute. On the rare occasion they did order from the main menu (mainly desserts), I did photograph it. Once the party was over we went up to deck 10 to watch the ship sail away. This is something we have done on our last several cruises.
I have since reviewed our experience there which you can read about here. She is very much into clothes, hairstyles and accessories so this was going to be right up her alley! I had reserved it for the second formal night, which was actually the Monday of the following week (not the next day) which I am surprised they did not specify on the invitation. Several people noticed and commented on it throughout the day. I totally dropped the ball on our Disneybounding game this cruise, although my husband and 2 of the girls attempted to pull something together at the last minute. Above you have Aurora and Jasmine, and you will see my husband’s in a little while.
The following video provides a longer look at the plugs removal and the Pacific Ocean waters meeting the Cocoli locks for the first time. The Disney Wonder left Port Everglades late last week on Saturday August 21st, stopping outside the Panama Canal in Colón on Tuesday before today’s Panama Canal transit. You can view the Disney Wonder moving through the Panama Canal’s Agua Clara Locks in this video from earlier in the day. The Disney Wonder is scheduled, based on the latest AIS information to arrive in San Diego on September 2, 2021. Ballroom Dancing – In a series of 45-minute lessons we attempted to learn the waltz, Argentine tango, rumba, salsa, merengue, American two-step, and swing.
According to the Disney Dream technical information sheet, the air draft of the Dream/Fantasy is 188ft which is under the 201ft limit imposed by the Bridge of Americas. The only flavors available today were chocolate and vanilla. If you would like to start this trip report from the beginning, click here. As it stands today, the Disney Wonder’s next scheduled and bookable sailings is Friday September 24, 2021, a 2-Night Baja Cruise from San Diego.
Because of Willa, we had six days in a row onboard the ship (five sea days plus the Canal), rather than the five that were originally planned. I must admit that when we first learned we would be on the ship for almost a week I was a little concerned that it might be too much, but we were BUSY! There were all kinds of activities, some of them exclusive to the longer Panama Canal and transatlantic voyages which have so many more sea days. Check in was quick and easy, and when we finished I immediately went to the supervisor’s desk at the end to check for upgrades.
I tasted one and thought that it was not as good as the ones you can get by the pool. We skipped dessert because we knew we would be getting ice cream cones later. When I checked the motion of the rain, it was pretty much staying in place and not even moving towards us. Also, anytime you see red text, it is a link to either product information or another one of my blog posts that gives more detailed information about that topic. The Disney Wonder’s estimated arrival in Colon is currently set for August 24th based on available AIS (automatic identification system) data. Puerto Vallarta is a great place to enjoy a variety of outdoor activities.
